This situation develops due to traditional right-angle designs employing a bifurcated (two-part) internal contact that forms the right-angle requirement.
While bifurcated designs allow for simplified assembly and lower costs, their geometric shape does not lend itself to good internal impedance control.
Replacing the Bifucated Contact Concept
Hengtong’s innovative new swept right-angle connector designs incorporate the physical advantages of traditional designs (i.e., low profile, compact size). The. new design maintains electrical performance comparable with conventional straight connectors. Hengtong replaced the two-piece bifurcated contact concept with an internal “swept” right-angle contact. The design provides a more robust design with superior impedance control, maintaining a low reflection path as the signal transitions from cable thru connector or connector to connector.
Low Insertion Loss
Designs of this nature typically are capable of VSWR performance under 1:25:1 up to 36 GHz with very low insertion loss. They also provide tighter packaging and greatly reduce the shock of vibration failures due to the one-piece swept contact design. But design only solves part of the equation.
